The joys of living in the Midwest in the wintertime – salt on the roads causes everything to rust. Here’s a Model 20 rear axle before the spring over axle conversion and disc brake conversion, and a rusted out rear frame crossmember that will get replaced.
View of the Jeep without the hard top. The factory roll bar will soon get replaced with a custom 6 point roll cage.
Removing the factory dash & cobbled wiring. Soon to get a stainless steel dash & stainless steel steering column along with all new Painless wiring harness.
A well lubricated Jeep T-18 4 speed manual transmission coupled to a Dana 20 transfer case that we removed. Soon to be degreased, gone through, resealed, and repainted.
A nice look at the engine without a grill and fender. The spring over axle conversion has taken place using Jeep Wrangler leaf springs in front instead of the stock CJ-5 springs. This will give the Jeep a much better ride.
Engine removed, next step: Fabricate a roll cage at Aaron’s metal fabrication shop.
Getting ready to weld some of the cross braces to the roll cage.
Here is a mock up of a diagonal brace before transferring the measurements and notches to the actual tube that will get welded in – this job is made much easier thanks to a tool called the PipeMaster. See more pictures of this roll cage at www.pipemastertools.com
The roll cage integrated the seat mounts.
